Pleased to meet you, my name is Jennifer and I am a violin and piano instructor at the Grosse Pointe Music Academy. The following list is a personal account of why I believe violin lessons are crucial for your child’s development and future. I began taking private violin and piano lessons at the age of 7. I also began taking dance lessons at the age of 3. However, the violin was the most stable form of study for me, out of the three art forms.
The value of daily practice (at least 5 times per week) is something that carries through to other activities in life. While in school, it was never difficult to finish my homework, or have free time, despite the fact that practicing was incorporated into the day. While practicing the violin is a difficult learning process, the excitement of attaining goals on the instrument gives confidence and inner understanding to the performer.
Devoting time to the study of violin is a skill that teaches patience. It is a gift beyond the music it produces. It provides entertainment to communities and connects people for a positive purpose. The benefits of playing violin long term provide potential scholarships, endless career opportunities and a chance to become engaged in the community.
I encourage all parents to consider violin lessons for their child, because they will have opportunities to show their musical abilities in music class, and potential orchestras in their elementary, middle and high school years.
If you are asking what age is the best for violin practice, I recommend the earlier the better. Age 3 is the preferred age to begin violin study. However, any age is acceptable.
