Today, Tuesday, April 30, is International Jazz Day. Jazz is a fantastic art form with roots in blues and ragtime. Jazz has been around in one form or another since the 1920’s which was coined as the “Jazz Age” it is characterized by swing rhythms, complex harmonies, call and response, and improvisation.

Jazz has influences from Blues and Ragtime and has since had crossover and fusions with many genres. Due to these crossovers and fusions jazz now has many different subgenres. The Roaring 20’s was a time of freedom and innovation in society as a whole. Jazz has been influential in music, and society and continues to flourish as a music genre today. There are jazz fans and performers all over the world and it is still a celebrated and preserved art form and continues to change and advance through the years.
