EQ
This is one of those things that takes a lot of patience and knowledge to get right. When I first started writing music for short videos the music was there but the balance between my different ideas was off. Sure, it sounded good, but it didn’t sound like what you would hear in a movie theater or on Spotify. The only way I was able to get better at this was trying and failing. I could often hear that it wasn’t quite right but had no idea where to go from there. This is where my teacher came in to pinpoint specific problems in the mix. Without a knowledgeable teacher, learning how to engineer music and create interesting sounds has the potential to take many more years and cause much more frustration than it needs to.
Song Structure
One of the most important parts of producing music is making sure that the different sections of the song fit together. This comes down to proper development of the music so that everything feels like it’s connected together. Your mix could be clear and balanced but what if the ideas feel awkward and the transitions are clunky? The EQ wont matter anymore. Having a teacher that can offer new ways of looking at your music is a great way to get out of that creative rut or just take your music to the next level. As a student it takes some courage admitting that your music could improve but you will quickly see improvements in your music.
Finding the potential in your music
Knowing how to create music and sounds in a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) can be such a rewarding experience in and of itself. But there is so much more you can do with it other than having fun in your studio. A good teacher can help you discover the potential of your music. This could take the form of writing music for movies or writing pop music. Not only does it give you the skills to write music and make mixes sound great, but you will also learn how to create your own sounds. Creating unique sounds is something that is sought after when it comes to video game development. Because there are so many new and exciting things happening in the video game industry, developers need specific audio assets to be created for all kinds of things. By taking music production lessons you can set yourself up for success in a wide range of industries that require you to not only make your own music but create completely new sounds.
