Jumpin’ Josie It’s May!
Is it May already?! May seemed to sneak up on us as we have been jumpin’, wigglin’, and singin’ this Spring semester. “Jumpin’ Josie” is the perfect song to adapt to the different milestones your little ones are working on right now – crawlin’, walkin’, climbin’, to hoppin’ on one foot – and it is a fun way to encourage the kiddos. Hopefully as they get older they will also share their own ideas on how to move with Josie which is an example of how music programs help children work on leadership and sharing skills.
Thank You for Your Support!
Each day we are thankful for all the joy and kindness we have in the Hummingbirds Music Together community! Thank you to all that came out and supported the special fundraiser to help the very special Lawes family! More than 100 people joined together and provided an evening of true generosity. With all the challenges in life and especially what the Lawes family is enduring, it is beautiful to see the out pouring of love and kindness! Thank you all!

Summer Sing & Sign – Every Fourth Friday in June, July, & August, 10:00 – 11:00 am: Join us for Sing & Sign this summer at the Rotary Tot Lot in Grosse Pointe. This fun interactive event incorporates singing, sign language, rhythm and movement and afterwards the kiddos can also enjoy making a craft. The Grosse Pointe MomPrenuers are excited to bring this back for a second year in a row! The Rotary Tot Lot is located at the corner of St. Clair and Waterloo in the City of Grosse Pointe.
Heat Breaks At the Canton Library: We are scheduling a few fun sessions with the Canton Public Library for everyone to take a break from the summer sun and get their music on! We will share the dates as soon as they are confirmed. For our friends already enrolled in Hummingbirds Music Together classes, we will also plan to meet afterwards for a picnic lunch and playdate at Heritage Park near the library.
We Are Building Basic Music Competence Every Day!
Music Together defines basic music competence in very simple terms – a child is musically competent when he or she can sing in tune with accurate rhythm. This sounds basic as everyone should be able to carry a tune, right? Unfortunately in the US, fewer and fewer people can carry a tune or keep a beat these days, even though everyone has the potential. The good news is that all people can achieve basic music competence and with early music experience children are likely to sing in tune and carry a beat by age three or four. Ask your teacher if you have any questions regarding your child’s progression.
