Drums play an essential role in modern popular music, providing the backbeat that propels the rhythm forward. The drummer is responsible for keeping perfect time within the group and is vital to the success of the musical performance. Despite their typically seated position at the back of the stage, the drummer’s role is anything but background. Many drummers relish their responsibility for setting the rhythm and timing for the group and take pride in their ability to execute complex patterns with precision and accuracy.
Grosse Pointe Music Academy recognizes the importance of drumming in modern music and offers a wide variety of drum and percussion lessons to aspiring drummers of all ages and skill levels. Our lessons are taught on a drum kit and stress proper technique so students can develop their skills quickly. Most of our students start on a drum kit, but we do suggest that younger students, who typically cannot reach both the pedal and the high hat, come in for a trial lesson to see if they are ready to get started.
While students can get started practicing on practice pads at home, we believe that the best way to learn the craft of drumming is with a live human instructor. Our lessons are available in 30, 45, or 60-minute sessions and are tailored to the individual needs and goals of each student. While online lessons can be a great supplementary resource, they cannot replace the hands-on instruction and personal feedback that can only be provided by a live human instructor. If you are interested in learning the drums and becoming a skilled, confident drummer, consider enrolling in lessons at Grosse Pointe Music Academy.
