One of the many joys of music is getting the opportunity to connect with others during your journey. Working with others whether it be in a “garage” band, community orchestra, wedding band, jazz band, or even at the professional level is a fantastic and rewarding experience. I can honestly say I have made some fantastic friends and connections through both talking about and playing music.
There are many people across the world who are passionate about music, whether it be as listeners or as players. Music offers a unique opportunity to bring people closer together due to its nature. Ultimately music is a “team sport” and even with the competition that often happens at the college and professional levels, ultimately musicians need other musicians. Can you imagine an orchestra, or marching band with a singular musician? It just wouldn’t be the same.
With all this said, music can also be a private and personal journey. There are many people who play music as a private hobby and outlet for their creative side. In addition there are professionals who perform as solo acts, using prerecorded backing tracks or utilizing loopers to make their “band.”
Ultimately music can be anything you want it to, whether its a private and personal hobby you do on weekends to be creative, or whether you want to perform or teach as a profession. With all that said, grosI would encourage every musician at some point or another to perform with a group in front of audiences. The experience can be lifechanging!
The music academies offer several opportunities for you to perform, whether it be as a solo act in our recitals or in a group setting at one of the music band camps such as the upcoming Summer Rock Camps.
