Bass
Let’s look at reality here. Most people don’t know what a bass guitar is. While the esteemed six string acoustic and electric guitar is adored by millions the Bass guitar is often seen as secondary. The job of the bass guitar is not usually to be the lead or be standing out in front. The bass plays the lower notes which connect the rhythm to the other instruments.
Bassists usually are not the most popular person in the band either. Isn’t the whole point of playing guitar in the first place to be cool and get attention?
If you want the attention then don’t play bass. All that’s been said is absolutely true. With few exceptions, bass players do not get attention. However they do have a great time and are a very integral part of any musical group.
Why play bass?
The role of the bass is absolutely critical in any band. It sets the groove for the music and it’s really what makes people move to the music. Think of how satisfying it would be to see people dancing to the music and knowing that it’s your bass playing that’s helping them to do that.
From another perspective, Bass players are always in demand, assuming you’re accomplished enough. Since so many choose the more popular 6 string guitar, bass players are fewer and further between.
Be a bass player!
